Adsense Niche

January 23, 2007

Niche is a word everyone keeps mentioning in internet and online marketing. What does this word mean? A lot of the advice on the internet is telling you to invest your energy in building a niche website or blog. So why not choose a niche that would help you earn a reasonable income from your adsense pages? Okay so what's a niche?

Here are four websites, each of the websites is listed with their definitons explaining what a niche is.

wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn - a position particularly well suited to the person who occupies it; "he found his niche in the academic world"

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niche - Generally, a niche is a special place within the scheme of things. It sometimes denotes the function or position of a thing within a structure. Niche is an English word of French origin.

www.seagrant.sunysb.edu/BTRI/btriterms.htm - A unique ecological role of an organism in a community.

www.sfrc.ufl.edu/Extension/ssfor11.htm - the unique environment or set of ecological conditions in which a specific plant or animal species occurs, and the function the organism serves within that ecosystem.

What is the point of all of this and what does it have to do with my google adsense webpages? Everything. Why? Notice how the two prominent words in the definitions suggest unique and position? If you're good at baking cakes, then you would rather start a website or blog based on baking cakes. The topics you might consider would range from 'How to bake a chocolate cake' or 'how much chocolate to use for your cake' to 'recipes for a chocolate cake'. Notice how we are not talking about the art of baking as a whole but focusing on a sub area of baking, namely baking chocolate cakes.

In terms of google adsense and your success in using the program, it is always advisable for beginners and experienced adsensers to create webpages focused on an area you are good at or have interest in and where you can give an opinion in. For example, I write articles on Google Adsense program because I have used the adsense program for three years and have experienced many ups and downs. In light of this adsense experience I'd like to share my experiences so that others may avoid the mistakes I've encountered. It would make adsense easier to enjoy by hearing what others have done wrong and avoiding it don't you think? Notice how I don't write articles on the entire range of products from Google but focus on Adsense. When you focus on a niche, chances are your adsense ads served to your site by Google will also become more focused thus attracting more clicks from your visitors. More Clicks equals higher earnings.

But do not be fooled, it's not as magical and simple as it sounds. When you decide on a niche topic, you need to then choose keywords for your niche topic. If a niche is too competitive then chances are it will be harder for you to get to be in the top ten results returned in the search engines. For example, go to google and type into the search text field 'allintitle:chocolate cake'. You will see at the top towards the right "Results 1 - 10 of about 214,000 for allintitle:chocolate cake ". This means there are 214,000 other competitors for this idea.

Can you make it? Yes you can provided what your website has to offer is not the same as the others. However, in a scenario where there are 10 million other competitors, trust me you're better off researching another field! I would advise you to find a keyword where there are between 15,000 to 500,000 other competitors. In this way, your chances of increased adsense earnings are higher provided your website or blog gives interesting and informative content. Always remember, Content is King! If your site or blog has great content in a focused area, other sites or blogs will link to you, the search engines will love you and you will slowly begin to rise in ranking at the search engines.

Remember the words unique and positon? If your content is unique, you will be looked upon as an expert in your field and your position will rise in the search engines. This means, the more your content is unique and of high interest to the web community, your position moves up in search engines and guess what? The higher up you climb in ranking, the more visible you become and the more traffic you'll get. So the key is when you are looking for an adsense niche keep your content unique and always focus on moving up in position.

Hope this post was of help to you!
