What's The Deal With Adsense PIN Anyway?

August 11, 2007

There seems to be a general sense of confusion when it comes to how Adsense payments work. A seemingly simple issue, or so I thought until I received an email this morning from one of my readers asking how long it takes for Google to pay you for your Adsense earnings and what the payout minimum balance is. I have seen numerous adsense publishers complain about payments in the forums as well. So what exactly is the deal?

The Adsense help center explains to you in five steps how the payment of your adsense earnings works. Once your account balance reaches USD50.00, Google will mail you a PIN which is a code you enter in your adsense account to enable Google to release your payments. The PIN is sent out to your mailing address that you submitted to Google on your sign up application for adsense. However, payment will only be sent to you after your account balance reaches or exceeds USD100.00. You will notice when you log into your adsense account a message that states that your payments are currently on hold and action is required. If you click on the more details link on that message box, you will be taken to another page were you will be required to enter your PIN.

From the date of mailing of your PIN it normally takes 3 - 6 weeks for you to receive it via post. Although Google will tell you that it takes 2 - 3 weeks but in reality it could take longer depending on the postal services in your area. However, if after 6 weeks you still have not received your PIN then I would advise you to request another PIN. Remember that when you request another PIN, you will need to wait another 3 - 6 weeks for the new PIN!! How do you know that Google have sent your PIN to you? They send you an email to notify you that they have sent out your PIN to your mailing address, so use the date of that email as a rough estimate.

To request a new PIN, follow the instructions provided by the Adsense help center which states as follows:

  1. Log in to your AdSense account at https://www.google.com/adsense
  2. Click the My Account tab
  3. Continue to the Payment History page
  4. Click the Please enter your PIN link
  5. Click Request a new PIN

Hope this post was of help to you!
